How To Schedule Your Blog Tasks

After blogging for almost three years, I've finally created the perfect blogging routine. Out of all of the things I've learned from blogging, one of them is that you can't do everything you need to do for your blog all at once. In order to make sure your content and pictures are your best quality, it's a smart move to divide your blog planning into three separate days.

S U N D A Y -- post ideas + pictures
I like to reserve Sundays (or Saturdays for you if you have the time) for brainstorming post ideas and taking/creating pictures for the following two weeks. I'll sit down with my blog planner and fill in post titles with key points to include for each day. This will give me an idea of any pictures I need to take/create! If I have a couple of outfits that I want to feature, I'll use Sunday for the shoots. Some bloggers prefer to do only shoot for a day, but I like to do multiple outfit shoots at once to get them over with. If I have any posts that I need to create graphics for, I'll spend time doing that as well.

T U E S D A Y -- blog posts
Tuesday is when I write the actual blog posts, which takes the most time. I spend at least half an hour on each post due to writing, editing, implementing pictures, etc. I'll write and edit the posts for the next two weeks and make sure they're scheduled and ready to go! Making sure the blog posts are complete allows me to prepare social media posts, which is for the following day.

T H U R S D A Y -- social media
Thursday focuses solely on social media -- Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. I use a social media calendar to write the date of each post, the time of each post, the platform of each post, the goal of each post, the content of each post, the picture of each post, and the link of each post. It's a lot to consider, but it seriously helps. Twitter and Facebook are the only platforms I use for my blog every day, so already knowing what I need to post on these sites is extremely helpful. I use Pinterest every time I have a picture in my blog post, but I don't always use pictures in each blog post. I use Instagram the least, but I would like to use it more. And of course, already having pictures to use is really helpful when making these posts! After I have my social media calendar filled out, I use Hootsuite to schedule tweets and I use the scheduling feature on Facebook to schedule posts.

This schedule works well for me, but it may not work well for everyone! It took a lot of trial and error to finally find a routine that felt just right to me -- which may be the same case for you. One tip is to utilize your free time -- use any extra time to get blogging tasks done! I didn't really need to follow this schedule this summer because I had so much extra time that I didn't really need to worry about getting things done; they just happened. But once school starts, I need this routine to keep me on task and motivated!

How do you schedule your blog tasks?

  1. I love your schedule! I'm going to make one for the semester once I know when I have time! You're so organized, I'm jealous! You've had such amazing content though, so I really need to schedule time out like you do!

  8. I don't have a schedule -- I just do things when I can.
Usually I just try to get everything done for the week on Sunday but that can be a lot so I at least try to have Monday-Wednesday's posts complete by the time I go to bed on Sunday.

  10. Saving this! I'm going abroad in the fall and am very nervous about keeping up with my blog schedule, which has been erratic as it is. I usually try to do EVERYTHING while the kids I am nannying are asleep. Luckily they take long naps, but it can leave me feeling frantic if I mix up days or fall behind!

  11. Great ideas.I do something similar though not very regular. Your article is like a gentle reminder.

  13. I do this as well <3 Sunday night I make my blog post calendar, Monday is catch up day from weekend comments and social media promotion and community with other bloggers, Tuesday is posts & multiple twitter chats, Wednesday is booking new travel for posts, Thursday is all about my Hootsuite scheduling, Friday is more blog post content and Saturday is a day off for me! :)

  14. Love your schedule! I typically plan my posts during the weekend and write all of my posts sometime during the week (I always have a week of posts scheduled). I don't really schedule my social media though!

  15. This is a nice schedule! I balance blogging with a full-time job, so I honestly just complete my tasks as I am able. Maybe I will be able to get more structure some day, but not with my current job!

Thanks for sharing what's working for you!

  20. These are awesome ideas, but I am no where near as organized as this. I always get the best ideas at the most random times, and end up doing everything else fairly sporadically as well!

  21. I like how you break down each task day by day! Sundays are usually my "get it done" day, and I brainstorm all of my posts for the week then and draft around 3 of them. I kind of take blog photos whenever I can! It's all over the place.

  24. I need to come up with a schedule like this! I have really been struggling as I have recently headed back to work full-time after the summer off. It's so hard juggling blogging and teaching! I think something like this would help me stay organized and on top of things!

  25. Wow girl- you have an amazing schedule!

There are definitely certain times of the year that I'm more consistent about pre-scheduling my posts and social media, etc. But honestly college is just such a crazy time of life! I think that once I'm out in the real world and have more of a 9-5 (hopefully) type job, I will be able to finally get into a SET blogging routine- not just blogging crazily between college things. ;-)

  28. I've been doing a lot of researching on fine tuning my blog work schedule and this post was super helpful! I love that you dedicate a day to everything, whereas I've been trying to serious multitask throughout one day. Definitely going to try breaking what I need to do down day-by-day to see if that works better for me. Also, what kind of "social media calendar" do you use...just a regular calendar that you utilize for social media purposes, or is there some kind of downloadable one I should know about!? x Nicole | www.changeanddress.com

  30. This is a really great idea! I personally try to do the bulk of my stuff on weekends, and typically on Sunday just because it's when I have the most free time. Setting a schedule like this for myself would probably be super helpful and eliminate some stress.

  34. You are so organized. I write and schedule almost everything on Sundays and work on social media, comments, and other tasks throughout the week. Having a day reserved for everything makes it less overwhelming and easier to manage.

  35. I'm going to try out this schedule next week! Some weeks I'm really great about preparing ahead of time and some not. But a set schedule like this would probably really help me!

  38. Great tips, and a great way to remain organized and on top of things...care for your blog like a business and you will find success...

  39. I always start off this organized...and then lose it. But I completely agree that this sort of division is vital, which is probably why my blog is stuck on a plateau right now. Socia media is the worst for me--I get so lazy about scheduling it! What does your social media calendar look like/what do you use to make it?
